The following is a report on the “Communism Threatens World Peace Symposium held in Kiev, Ukraine on September 16, 2005.

KIEV - On September 16, 2005, a "Communism Threatens World Peace Symposium" was held in the Ukraine capital Kiev at the Youth Hall in Teacher Palace. Mr. Boot Yuriy Oleksandrovich, former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, a former member of the liberal-democratic party, currently the president of "the Ukraine Election Committee" Kiev branch, and regarded in Ukraine as an expert in politics and the governmental problems, gave a speech at the symposium.

The Epoch Times Ukraine Branch and Memorial, a known human rights organization in Ukraine, sponsored the symposium. The symposium brought positive responses from the public and also caused protest from the remaining communist party in Ukraine.

Professor Shao Li from England; Mr. Roman Krutsyk Mikolyevich, President of the Memorial and former member of national assembly; Mr. Sergiyenko Oles Feodorovich, Member of the of union elders of the Ukraine Republican Party; Ms. Skoryk Olena Yevgenivna, Chief Editor of "An Open Lecture Magazine;” Mr. Boot Yuriy Oleksandrovich, President of the Ukraine Election Committee; and Mr. Pronyk Evgen Vasylyovich, President of the Ukraine Political Offender Association, were invited as speakers. Among the approximately one hundred attendees, there were people from the Ukraine political circle, representatives from the media and human rights organizations, victims and families from the communist era, and media from the Ukraine communists and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

"The Nine Commentaries" and "The Party Resignations"

British English Epoch Times Chief Editor, Professor Shao Li, using photos and graphs, narrated how the Epoch Time’s editorial "The Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party" brought about the wave of party resignations among Chinese people and its influence on Chinese and world politics. He pointed out that this kind awakening in the Chinese people signifies the arrival of the end of the despotic communism.

Professor Shao Li also analyzed the human rights and economic situation under the CCP’s rule. He said that when international statesmen make contact with China, they frequently regard the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as China or Chinese people. Many Chinese also regard criticisms of the CCP as criticism of China and the Chinese people. This is very unfortunate, because to China, nothing is more “foreign” than communism, and to the Chinese people, the high-pressure dictatorship ruler is the biggest enemy. He indicated that the CCP cannot represent China, even more so, the CCP cannot represent the Chinese people. Wherever it is, the communist dictatorship is the people's enemy, and also is the biggest threat to the world peace.

Ukraine Questions Communism

Mr. Roman Krutsyk Mikolyevich, a member of the second election of the national assembly and the Director of the research and education institute during the massacre in Ukraine by the Soviet Union Communist Party (SUCP), has witnessed the cruelty of the SUCP in his lifetime and the tragic historic period brought about by the SUCP.

In order to let the Ukraine people not forget this tragic history and to preserve the memories for later generations, he participated in the formation of the Memorial and is devoted to various activities and curriculums of the "No Right to Forget" campaign. Using "Ukraine Questions Communism" as the title, he introduced the purpose and value of the Memorial in his speech and revealed the crimes committed against the Ukraine people by the SUCP from 1917 to 1991. He also summarized the efforts the Ukraine people has made to break away from the evil communism during the last 14 years, specially after the Orange Revolution last November. He believed that Ukraine’s effort in breaking away from the control of the SUCP and the efforts in peacefully moving toward democracy will also become true for all communist countries worldwide.

A Political Dissident’s Tragic Experience during the SUCP Ruling

Mr. Sergiyenko Oles Feodorovich, Member of the of union elders of the Ukraine Republican Party, was a political dissident during the ruling of the SUCP. The topic of his speech was "The Tragic Experience in Ukraine in the Era of Communist Rule." He denounced the evil essence of the SUCP, citing his personal experiences. Compared with 10 million Ukrainians slaughtered by the SUCP, Sergiyenko could be considered a lucky one because he survived. During the SUCP’s rule, approximately one fifth of the Ukraine population was killed.

Sweeping away the Educational Brainwashing Caused by Communism

Ms. Skoryk Olena Yevgenivna is in charge of Ukraine’s open education schools and the chief editor of the famous "An Open Lecture" magazine. At the symposium, she gave a speech on "The Influence of the Previous Communist Education System on a Person’s Development.” She analyzed and gave examples of residual problems from the influence of the previous communist dictatorship on the current education system. She stressed that the communist education system caused one to lose oneself, and to obey the despotic leadership of the communist party without question. It was extremely harmful to the growth of a child as well as an adult.

Symposium Shocks the CCP

The symposium received positive feedback from societies worldwide. The Ukraine communist party and the Chinese embassy were disturbed by the symposium also. The Chinese embassy’s department responsible for news media called the organizer of the symposium asking them not to hold it, as it was not beneficial to China. The organizer told him, "The topic of this symposium is that communism endangers human rights and world peace. To talk about the human right and crimes of communist party is beneficial to the Chinese people."
