The 2006 Chinese New Year Global Gala will debut in Boston on January 7 in Cutler Majestic Theatre at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Because Boston was not one of the many cities where NTDTV held the 2005 New Year Gala, the local station hired a group of buses to take people to the gala in New York. On that day, the atmosphere in Madison Square Garden was exhilarating. The big red Chinese lanterns hung at the entrance, ushers dressed as fairies and a sea of smiling faces, created the magical feeling of Chinese New Year. Many Westerners were even waited in the cold wind for a chance to buy the extra tickets. The 3-hour production was unforgettable. Some traditional dances, such as "Eight Taos Crossing the Ocean" and "The Buddha-light Illuminates Everywhere," have been rarely seen in the west.

On the way home, many asked if the gala would be held in Boston the next year. Now, the dream has come true. With several months of tireless effort by the local NTDTV staff, the first performance of the 2006 New Year Gala will be shown in Boston.

The Artistic Director of the gala, former renowned musician of China's Central Philharmonic Orchestra, Rutang Chen told us that he is very confident that the NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Gala will the biggest annual Chinese New Year celebration overseas. The main production of the 2006 New Year Gala will be held in Radio City Music Hall, New York, where the "Christmas Spectacular," one of the biggest annual Christmas performances in United States since 1933, is held.

Rutang Chen said that the 2006 New Year Gala's theme is the myths and legends of Chinese history. "The whole team, including famous artists and volunteers, have been working very hard together, and that is the reason the gala is getting better and better each year, and it's the reason the main production in New York is held in a bigger and bigger theatre each year."

Most of the performances that will be shown in Boston are group dance numbers chosen from the main production in New York. According to the NTDTV staff members who have seen the rehearsal, the performances are even more elaborate than the ones last year. Details on the performances will soon be announced. Local artists from Boston will also perform. This must-see, ancient Chinese style gala, which combines the essence of Eastern and Western cultures, is sure to bring the audience great joy.
