Future China Online University Officially Opens Back

On April 8, 2007, at the rally in New York in support of the 20 million people who have withdrawn from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Future China Online University (FCOU) was officially opened. The opening attracted attention from many circles of society.

To mark this event, The Epoch Times interviewed Dr. Li Dayong, the founder of the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP and the executive principal for the Future China Online University. The following is a record of this interview:

Epoch Times: Principal Li, what kind of university is the Future China Online University? What sort of education will it offer?

Principal Li: The most important aspect is that this is the first university that no longer forces teachers and students in mainland China to absurdly insist on the "Four Basic Principles"; that no longer trains "successors of proletarian revolutionary cause"; that no longer imbues people with the CCP's distorted history, deviated values and Party culture, and definitely no longer ridiculously pushes people to join the CCP to make up the numbers. On the contrary, our university takes it upon itself to restore traditional Chinese morality and culture, and to recover the high moral integrity of scholars of past dynasties. At the same time, we will try our best to spread all advanced cultures that exist in the countries around the world. This is a university that engages in teaching and research in the humanities.

It can be said that Future China Online University is a complete rejection of the CCP's current education system and model. It is acting as the first pilot project and is carving out a way to reform the several thousand universities in China, which are currently full of the CCP's culture.

Our university will train high-level humanities’ talents with virtue, ability, and courage, which are urgently needed for the future China. Graduates will be able to "shoulder the great responsibilities for the country, and report their fulfillment to the people." They will replace those civil servants performing the tasks for the CCP, who still refuse to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations on the verge of the CCP's collapse, en masse in the fields of culture, politics, economy, law, finance, news, and national defense.

Graduates will replace those who still refuse to accept or believe in precious truth clarification materials, and follow the evil CCP to its imminent elimination. They will thus participate in administering and governing the future China as people who have awakened and prepared early. If we wait until the CCP collapses to think about and begin training these talents, it will be too late! Back

The Tragedy of a Wild Fan Shocks Hong Kong People Back

Mainland Chinese Yang Qinji committed suicide on March 26 because his daughter Yang Lijuan did not get a chance to meet with Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau alone. The incident has sparked a debate and created a furor in Hong Kong and China. Yang's family lives in northwestern China. His daughter Yang Lijuan has been a fan of movie star Andy Lau since the age of 15. Her obsession with Lau led her to quit school and at age 30, remained idle, spending her days watching videos of Lau's concerts. She wrote letters to him, bought all products related to him and traveled to Hong Kong twice to meet him.

To raise money for her second trip to Hong Kong, Yang Lijuan's parents sold off their only apartment in 2004 and in March this year, the downtrodden family of three went to Hong Kong to attend a fans meeting hoping that Yang Lijuan would be able to see Lau alone. However, it turns out that Yang could not meet Lau alone. In protest, her father committed suicide by jumping into the Salisbury Sea in Hong Kong. He left behind a letter admonishing Lau for being "cold blooded and heartless".

This tragedy has sparked off a furious debate in Hong Kong. The incident exposes the psychological problems that are hidden in people living in mainland China. Lan Guoqiang, a psychologist from Anran Psychological Consultation Center in Lanzhou, pointed out that Yang Lijuan is suffering from "love paranoia," symptoms of which include lack of self-control, narrow-mindedness and no sympathy for others' feelings. Lan believes that this is caused by society, education and family.

Is Yang's tragedy a particular incident? It is a social problem. Before the tragedy happened, media in China reported on Yang Lijuan's story for entertaining audiences. Some media even have a series of reports on her story. No one cared about the psychological problem behind it.

After the father committed suicide, some internet users condemned that Lau was indifferent. A 24-year-old young man said he was so touched by their story that he proposed marriage to Yang Lijuan. A student in the Department of Law at Beijing University, Zhang Bo, posted a picture of himself with scissors pointing to his own stomach, threatening Lau to marry Yang Lijuan with his death.
Judging by these cases, is it only the Yang family with psychological problems? No wonder psychologist Lan told society not to continue to sympathize with Yang and support her. It's an encouragement for abnormal acts.

On the other hand, the reactions toward the incident in Hong Kong are more mature. Most people and media feel sorry for the Yang family, but few support them. Back

Volunteer Discusses Chinese People's True Feelings About Quitting the Communist Party Back

The banners read: "Heaven Will Destroy the Chinese Communist Party," "Quit the CCP to Ensure Your Safety," and "The CCP's Evil Spirit is Already Rooted Out, So What Are You Waiting For?"

On March 31, at a rally in Chicago, a report from New Tang Dynasty TV interviewed Mrs. Li, a volunteer who has worked on the CCP resignation project in China and who had just arrived in the U.S last October.

When Mrs. Li heard about the interview she ran home and brought out a large stack of papers of various shapes and sizes. The papers were filled with aliases such as, "Fortune" and "Precious" and also some real names. On the papers were also written sentences like "I voluntarily withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party," "Voluntarily resigning from the Communist Youth League" and other such phrases. Mrs. Li said that these were resignation declarations she had brought from China. She said that over the past two years, in her share alone, there were no less than 3,000 people who had quit the three communist organizations.

Mrs. Li was asked if Chinese people could accept phrases such as "Heaven Will Destroy the Communist Party" and "Quit the CCP to Ensure Your Safety." Mrs. Li answered that "many people understand them." She said that in China doing this project is very dangerous but no one has ever betrayed them. It is because many people find, especially retired officials, that after they quit the CCP much of their illnesses such as cerebral thrombus were cured.

Mrs. Li also shared that once they went to a hospital to advertise CCP resignations and met an old lady with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. Li advised the lady to withdraw from the CCP, to which she replied, "I'm already so ill, what is the use of quitting now?"
Mrs. Li told her, "It is no problem; this will ensure your happiness in the next life." The old woman, half believing, said, "I'm already so ill. Fine, if you say I should quit, then I will." Not long after this the old lady was able to walk and her cancer was cured. Afterwards she went to her son's office and loudly proclaimed, "I quit the CCP and my illness was cured. You all showed so much filial piety, but who cured my illness?" The son was terrified and quickly said, "Mom, don't talk about it here in the office, we'll talk at home." The elderly lady said, "I want to proclaim it here, and warn you all not to do so many actions against heaven."

It turned out that this was the local 610 office, the office that handles all Falun Gong affairs (persecution), and that the elderly lady's son was the head of this office. Back

Understanding of China's Economy Comes Late Back

On March 28, 2007, Morgan Stanley's chief economist Stephen Roach, talked about his conversation with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the press conference for the just released 2006 Gallup Poll of China.

Roach said Wen mentioned to him at the meeting that China's economy had no potential for continuous development, is not stable, not coordinated, and not balanced. Wen also expressed that he was worried.

Common Sense Comes Slowly

Instead of being Roach's clever insight, the above understanding and statement is rather his canny business analysis. Similar analysis was already common sense in Chinese academia (except for those loyal followers of the government).

The East Asia economic community is famous for its high savings rate and had a consumption rate of 65 percent. China, except for a few particular months, had a consumption rate that was always lower than 60 percent.

In 2006, China's final consumption rate hit a record low of 50 percent. The low consumption rate and high savings rate came from the heavy burdens of medical, education, and real estate expenses that Chinese people needed to shoulder, resulting in financial insecurity.

Roach used to be the Chinese government's "best friend." In the past few years, Roach often talked in public about the great economic development in China. He thought that people who did not agree with him overlooked China's most competitive elements- labor cost, technology, fundamental infrastructure, human resources, and the government's passion for reform. The workers are paid so little that they have nothing to spend to build a consumer market in China.

The Chinese government faces two choices—to continue to deprive the poor until China collapses, or to let the poor share in the results of economic growth so the government can continue to collect the profits from their labors.

There are many pro-China supporters who are like Roach. They live in a free country but embrace communism. They use their special work privilege to promote China and become China's friend. They thus successfully gained business interests in China. These people whom the Chinese government calls "friends" are definitely not the Chinese people's friends, though the government calls them so. Back

Human Rights a Playing Card in China's Internal Power Struggle

CHINA—A few days before Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Japan, renowned human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng broke through a communication blockade and made a successful call to his long-time friend and supporter Hu Jia. This put China's human rights issues under the scrutiny of the international community once again.

On the same day, Chinese sources revealed that Beijing Haiding District Governor Zhou Liangluo was arrested under the Party's internal discipline regulation for land embezzlement. Zhou is believed to be the janissary of current Political Bureau Standing Committee Member Jia Qinglin and a loyalist of former party leader Jiang Zemin. Zhou's arrest refreshes people's memory about the fall of former Shanghai Party Chief—Chen Liangyu in 2006.

The Sudden Release of Gao's News

Gao had lost contact with the outside world for eight months since his secret kidnapping in August 2006. In December 2006, Gao was put on trial behind closed doors and sentenced to three years in prison on a subversion charge with a five-year reprieve. With a gag order in place, he was then returned home and his whole family was put under house arrest.

The news released by Gao Zhisheng was not coincidental. While Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao were creating people's favor towards them, Zeng Qinghong, also one of the Standing Members inside the Political Bureau who controls China's secret service, made use of attorney Gao, letting him send out his story to divert focus and cool down public expectations of Hu and Wen.

Every time when Hu and Wen visit abroad, the Jiang and Zeng faction create some trouble, either cracking down on the mainland rights movement in a high profile fashion, to release the message that the human rights issue is deteriorating inside China, or by using the secret service system under their control to create trouble in the visiting countries, such as pressuring the visiting country to block a Falun Gong protest and even arresting Falun Gong practitioners without a reason. It is no different this time; Zeng wants to create conflicts between Wen and the public by releasing Gao's information.

Actually, Zeng used a similar tactic in 2006, when the international community was focused on organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners, demanding an independent investigation inside China. Attorney Gao was suddenly arrested. According to many reports, Zeng and his secret service department were behind this arrest. It is called “sever the tail to save the life.” The purpose was to shift international focus and pressure. Back

Changing the Face of Modern China Back

A NSW state politician and a former Chinese diplomat were among the speakers at a Sydney rally supporting the over 20 million people who have quit from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

"Some people question the figure of 20 million quitting the CCP," said Chen Yonglin the high profile Chinese diplomat who himself quit from the communist party in 2005 after leaving his post at the Chinese Consulate in Sydney. "The figure I want to say is the true figure.”

Law Professor Yuan Hong Bin who sought asylum in Australia in 2005 told the rally that such withdrawals were ongoing inside China: "[It] is a big campaign and has great momentum—millions of people are awakening and withdrawing from the Communist party.

"I believe a new China without communism will come soon…this Quit the CCP movement is leading towards a new China without communism."

NSW MP, Ian Cohen offered his and the Greens party's support for the withdrawals, which he said was reminiscent [of] people's movement in East Germany that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

"I think the fact that so many people quit the [Chinese] Communist Party, Mr Cohen said, is 'because it is a party without a heart and it is an organisation that is rotten to the core.'"

The upcoming Beijing Olympics, Mr Cohen said, offers an opportunity to highlight the human rights abuses committed inside China and the ongoing and largely unchecked environmental degradation that he described as "catastrophic".

Phil Glendenning, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre stated that the world needs a strong and independent China that positively engages with the world.

A China he said that "enables and recognizes and allows people to follow their own spiritual path, rather that to prevent them from practicing their spiritual beliefs, we want a church in China that can be above the ground and not under ground – where people have been forced to hide, those practices we need to leave behind in the century that has past."

We need China to be the China it has been for centuries and for millennia – we don't need a China of tyranny we don't need a China of oppression, we don't need a China that instills fear into politicians right across the world." Back
